Simon Hampshire (UK, 1985) has undergone formal training in architectural studies and holds a BSc (Hons) and MArch in architecture, from the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff. He has worked within architectural practice both in the UK and abroad. Following participation within design workshops and exchanges between Denmark, China and the UK, the value of an interdisciplinary collaborative approach remains a key factor in his aspirations for design and innovation.
‘Call me old fashioned, but I care deeply about the notion of high quality products made in England. In recent years, the use of traditional tools has given me a thorough insight and appreciation of the quality of something created by hand and as a partnership we believe the individuality and potential idiosyncrasies of working in this way still offer huge appeal. We aim to keep these skills very much alive and at the same time we are extremely interested in emerging technologies and the use of progressing CAD/CAM solutions. We believe that the latter need not bring the expiration of the former and instead that the scope of creative process has simply expanded. A good understanding of the two, therefore, allows us a project-by-project approach, in terms of our capability in executing the design and make process and the specific methods involved.’
